Supportability Engineering is a professional discipline integral to Systems Engineering. It is essential to the life cycle of systems, from concept / design to environmental disposal.
Supportability Engineers work in a number of different roles within the life cycle of a system. For example, they may be part of a system design team or support manufacturing, repair and operations. A Supportability Engineer will use analyses and measurements throughout the life cycle of a system to make sure it is safe to use, remain operationally effective, cost optimised and sustainable.
Given the variety of different roles a Supportability Engineer may be required to do, it can be a highly rewarding profession. You get to use your academic knowledge in doing analysis and measurements and use your logical thought process to make sound judgements on how a system is to be safely operated and maintained.
You get to ask questions, such as "why was this designed in this way", "how will a technician maintain this", "what caused the system fail in this way" etc.
As with any training course there is always the question "what will I get out of this?"
Well, you certainly will not be a Supportability Engineer when you complete the course.
You will get to do some of the basic activities that a Supportability Engineer would as part of a system design process. This Course will give you an insight into the fundamentals of Supportability Engineering and an understanding of them by writing your own notes and doing calculations; not just reading about it.
On completion of the Course you will have created your own set of notes and a spreadsheet workbook of calculations, yours to keep for your future.
This Course is for anyone that may be considering a career in engineering, or is already working with systems. It is a "practical" course, not theoretical, so it is about learning by doing.
No. This Course is a modular e-learning course, designed so it can be done on a "when I can" or "when I am asked to". The Course has an individual licence duration of one calendar year from confirmation of LMS access.
As this Course is a practical course, you will need to write your own notes and use a spreadsheet, such as Microsoft® Excel or Apple Numbers® to do the calculations.
You should be competent in the rules of ordering in mathematics (BODMAS).
However, the worked examples, “step-by-step” methods and "how to" videos allow Students of all abilities to complete the course at their own pace.
